Summer is literally just around the corner now, which means it’s time to think seriously about preparing your home for the best season of them all. If you do this now, then you’ll be able to kick back and really enjoy the sun without having to worry about the state of your home.

Here are some of the most important tasks you should think about scheduling now if you want to summer-ify your home:

Switch Out Your Closet

When summer hits, you’ll have little need for those bulky coats, warm sweaters, and long-sleeved tops. Instead of trying to find your slinky summer dresses and cut cut-offs amidst all those space-hogging cooler weather clothes, why not remove them from your closet completely? Store them in airtight plastic storage boxes and leave them in the attic or garage until the weather cools down again and you’ll have no trouble finding the outfits you actually want to wear this summer.

Change Your Bedding

As well as switching the clothes in your closet, now is the time to change to lighter bedding. When it’s hot, the last thing you want is thick, heavy sheets and blankets that will make you sweat all night long and prevent you from getting a good night’s sleep. Instead, add light cotton or linen sheets in cool, bright summer colors for a totally summer-ified bedroom.

Check the AC

There’s nothing worse than being stuck in a stuffy, hot room over summer. That’s why it pays to have your air conditioning system checked before summer rolls around. Clean the ac and if necessary, call out the ac repair guy, so that everything is functioning perfectly from the second the sun comes out and you need it.

Declutter

Decluttering isn’t just for summer – it will make your home much more comfortable all year round – but just ahead of summer is a good time to get rid of the stuff you don’t really need, simply because it helps the home to feel light and airy and because summer is the perfect time to hold garage sales and make a little extra cash to spend at the beach.

Spruce Up the Garden

If you’re anything like me, then you’ll spend as much time as you can outdoors in the summer. That means that it’s time to put on your gardening gloves and start sprucing the place up. Pull the weeds, plant a few summer-friendly flowers, wash the paving stones and driveway and mow the lawn. The garden will be a much more comfortable space if you do.

Speaking of your lawn, spending some time maintaining this part of the garden can make a major difference to the appearance of the entire outdoor area. Watering the grass a few times per week will ensure that it looks presentable while going through with some lawn fertilization keeps the area as a whole looking healthy. The goal is to eliminate brown patches in the yard and get rid of the weeds by creating an environment that is most conducive to growth. Lawn maintenance services are available if you aren’t confident in your ability to keep up with the work.

Clean the Windows

When the sun is shining, and the birds are singing, you want to be able to experience it even when you’re stuck indoors. So, clean those windows until they’re sparkling and then open them up to let in fresh air to purify your home, and so that you can hear the bird singing their summer songs.

Clean the Barbecue

Last but not least, now is the time to scrub that barbecue clean. You’re gonna want to eat outside when the sun is shining, and you have nothing else to do, and the last thing you want is to get sick because your barbecue hasn’t had any attention! Don’t have a BBQ?
