How to Lose Weight Safely and Effectively

Weight loss can be incredibly difficult. It is easy to let our bad habits slowly take over, and before we know what is happening we have packed on the pounds and our clothes no longer quite fit. Now there are many ways of losing weight, but not all of them are safe or even healthy. For example, it is tempting just to stop eating, but this is not a good way to go about it. We are here to lead you through methods of losing weight while maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

  1. Avoid Sugars

We all know that living off of chocolate cake is a good way to gain weight. However, many other sugary things are much worse for us than we realise. In particular, we need to watch what we drink. Sodas are the absolute worst thing to put in your body. You also want to avoid fruit juice. Yes, fruit is supposed to be healthy, and it is. Fruit juices contain a lot of sugar, and if you are regularly drinking it, then the effects will make themselves known.

  1. Eat a Good Breakfast

They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and they are right. One of the best ways to avoid snacking throughout the day is to have a bigger breakfast. Size is not everything though. You want to make sure that there is plenty of protein and fibre as foods containing these will help you to feel full and satisfied and thus less likely to eat snacks later. Good sources of protein include meat, fish and eggs and eating these will help boost your metabolism which will help burn extra calories. You can also help introduce more fibre to your diet by simply switching to whole grain versions of bread, rice and pasta.

  1. Eat Less More Often

This one can be difficult. We have all grown up eating three main meals at specific times. Indeed the whole world is set up to support living this way. If you have the kind of life that can accommodate this change, then it is well worth making. If you can find time to eat about six small meals per day rather than the big three we are all used to, then it can help you lose weight. Making yourself wait a long time between meals means that you are more likely to overeat, it is like trying to buy groceries when you are already hungry – you just want everything that you see. This is because if you go as long as 5 hours without eating then your blood sugar is very low causing you to crave food.

  1. Exercise

Regular exercise is a fantastic way to lose weight. What this does not mean is that you have to sign up to a gym and go and lift weight for hours every day. Instead, all you need is to do something more strenuous than usual every few days. There are loads of great resources available to help you plan and track a routine online without ever having to leave your home or buy equipment.

  1. Do Not Avoid Food

This sounds counter-intuitive, but it is true. Forcing yourself to not eat in the name of weight loss does not help. Yes, you will lose a little weight quickly, but there are adverse side effects such as fatigue, negative mood swings, and desperate hunger cravings. If you try to lose weight this way, then you are much more likely to crash and burn, losing all the hard work in a junk food fuelled binge. The bottom line is that how much you eat is not as important as what you eat. So continue to eat regularly and improve the quality of your food.
