How To Keep Your Couch Looking Good

It’s great when you buy a new couch. It’s so comfortable, so perfect. It just looks so good. It’s worth spending a decent amount of money on one too; they typically last for around 15 years, so you’ll certainly get your money’s worth out of it. However, if you really want your couch to last for a long time, and you want it to stay looking good, there are something things you should be doing.

Vacuum It

In most modern vacuum cleaners there is a brush tool and a crevice tool. These can be used to great effect on your couch, and help to keep it nice and clean. You should suck up all the bits and pieces that get stuck down the sides of the cushions (although we recommend you check for coins first!). Don’t use the main vacuum attachment for this job; it can cause crumbs and other hard materials to rub against the fabric, causing pulls and even tears.

Plump The Cushions

When you’re done using your couch for the day, don’t just leave it in whatever state and shape it has formed itself into. Instead, make sure you plump up all the cushions (the seats and the back) before you go to bed or leave the house. Not only will this make the couch look better, but it will also help to keep the cushions from sagging.

Keep It Protected

If you want your couch to last for as long as possible, try using throws and blankets to protect it. At the very least, arm covers could be a great idea. Think of how often those arms are used, and how much sweat will seep into them over time (not to mention spilled drinks, ink doodles and more). If you’re handy with a sewing machine, you can make your own covers, but alternatively, you can buy them online, ready-made. If you are looking for better sleep and want to try something out superior to your couch while protecting it from over use, these Split king Adjustable bed might be the right pieces of furniture for you to investigate as well.

Pet Beds

Pets are fantastic creatures, and they’re great company, but they really shouldn’t be allowed on your furniture if you want to keep it looking as good as the day it arrived. If your dog likes to be comfortable, invest in a luxury pet bed, as this is the perfect resting place for dogs. It can sit on the floor near your feet, so that you don’t miss out on company, but your couch remains pet free.

Tackle Stains Quickly

A couch will see all sorts of stains on it. The most common are tea and coffee, wine, and chocolate. You can cover these stains up with a throw, of course, but it’s best to try to remove it if you can. To do this, you’ll need to act quickly. Blot the stain first (but don’t rub it) with a piece of kitchen towel, and then clean the spot with warm water, working from the outside in. If that doesn’t work, a special stain remover might, but test an inconspicuous spot for discoloration first. If all else fails, some professionals will come and rescue your couch, but this can be expensive.
