Have you put on a few pounds or noticed a drop in your fitness recently? Have you decided that it’s time to do something about it? Are you worried that you simply cannot afford to get fit? Don’t sweat it.

Despite what many people think, the cost of fitness can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. You don’t have to pay hundreds of dollars each year for an expensive gym membership or empty your wallet at the shoe store for the perfect sneakers. There are lots of things you can do to get fit on a budget…

Start Running

Running is (almost) free, and it burns lots of calories quickly. You can start running with nothing more than a comfortable pair of sneakers and a comfy sports outfit. You can buy both of these items very cheaply at any number of stores, so there’s no excuse for not giving it a try if you’re serious about getting fit, losing weight and looking better.

Check Out YouTube Videos

If you fancy trying Zumba, Yoga or a high-octane dance class, but you can’t afford to pay for classes, log on to YouTube, where you will find a veritable cornucopia of free exercise classes to suit all tastes and experience levels. Providing you can make enough to space to exercise at home, you’ll never have to worry about paying for a fitness class again.

Cut the Junk from Your Diet

If you’re on a budget and you want to get healthier, it’s a no-brainer that you should ditch the junk food. Despite what many people would argue, healthy foods are much cheaper than chips, cookies and fast foods and they are much, much better for your body. By ditching them, not only will you give your health a boost, but you’ll have more money in your wallet at the end of the month.

Invest in a Kettlebell

You can buy a kettlebell for as little as $25, and it might just be one of the best investments you ever make because doing just 20 minutes of kettlebell swings three times a week could tone up your whole body, strengthen your cardiovascular system and burn in excess of 1200 calories. Kettlebells take up very little space, too, so even if you’re living in a small apartment, you should be able to benefit from its use.

Go Hiking

Hiking is a free activity that almost anyone can do in any place at any time. If you take the time to walk for at least 30 minutes every day and plan longer hikes for the weekend, you will soon notice a difference in your weight, your fitness levels, and your body shape. Spending time in nature will also help to relieve any stress you’re suffering from, and the fresh air will do you no end of good too.

Make Your Routine Fitness Friendly

Instead of driving to the store, walk and instead of taking the elevator take the stairs. Make as many swaps like this to your regular routine as possible, and the benefits will add up without costing you a single solitary cent.

Did you get fit on a budget? How did you do it?
