Christmas might be just around the corner, or it might be in a few months’ time. Whatever the season, in this article, we are going to discuss the merits of fake vs. real Christmas trees. Each have their pros and cons, so to help you make a more informed decision, read on.

Artificial Christmas Trees

Artificial Christmas trees vary greatly, from super realistic pine effect trees to lurid white and gold Christmas trees with fiberoptic lights built-in. You can choose from lit and unlit options, depending on whether you want to keep your light options open. Artificial trees usually come with a stand – cheaper ones have a plastic three-point stand and more expensive ones sit in a pot. Prices also vary. The larger and more realistic the tree, the more expensive it will be. Opting for inclusive lights will also boost the price tag.

Pros

Artificial trees can look nice if you buy a good brand. Balsam Hill trees are a popular brand – check out Balsam Hill reviews online. The best bit about an artificial tree is that it can be re-used year after year, so aside from the initial investment, it won’t cost you anything extra. Artificial trees are also quite robust, so they can withstand pets and kids.

Cons

A plastic tree is never going to look as nice as a real Christmas tree. It’s plastic, not pine. Also, if you buy a tree with lights included, there is a strong possibility that your lights will stop working in a few years. When that happens, you will have to buy new Laser Light Projectors or replace the tree.

Real Christmas Trees

Real Christmas trees are typically pine trees grown especially for Christmas. You can visit a seller and select your own tree, which will be cut down and bagged for you to take home, or you can buy a ready-netted tree from a local vendor. Christmas trees can have root balls, so they last longer, or have no roots, which means you can fix it in a metal stand. Real Christmas trees are available in all shapes and sizes, from small trees to huge trees so big there is no way it would fit in your home unless you punch a hole in the roof.

Pros

Real Christmas trees smell divine. The scent of pine is an integral part of Christmas and you really can’t beat it. A real tree also looks beautiful; much nicer than a fake one. They aren’t always symmetrical, but that’s part of the charm.

Cons

Real pine Christmas trees can be expensive, especially if you want a large tree. They don’t always last long and may start shedding needles well before Christmas Day, which is messy. Pets sometimes like to chew on the branches, which is bad for them. Pine sap will make a mess of your hardwood floor, so bear that in mind, too. Lastly, you’ll have to get rid of your Christmas tree once the holiday season is over, but if your tree has a root ball, it can be replanted in the garden.

Real or fake, your home won’t be the same without a Christmas tree!
