New Home Checklist: 6 Essentials For Your New Home

Got a new house? Or maybe shifting to your own apartment for the first time?—by the way, Congrats! You are one step closer to your dream house. Super excited to set everything up? What to add, what to skip? Your mind MUST be getting bombarded with plans, questions, and ideas…!

However, to organize your thoughts and be more focused on what to prioritize, keep a notebook with you. Instead, here is a bonus tip: Keep a diary that can hold papers too, and mention all the expenses, loans, purchases, expiry dates, warranty etc. of everything. Keep the receipts and warranty cards all organized into the diary. Trust me; during the hassle, we lose track of the essentials, so you can thank me later bud!

Now, what are the essentials for a new house? Do you need a checklist that is short yet covers everything important? I would not be listing down each and every kitchen or living room item. Instead, the essentials are more about what needs to be done first to prevent future hassle with some common necessities for a new home:

1.    First Comes First: What to Check First?

Start off with this checklist:

  • Before settling in a new home, make sure the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are installed. Ensure that they are in working conditions.
  • On your first day, change all the locks and keys where possible.
  • Garage doors may be reprogrammed as well.
  • Check out the things that need repair.
  • Locate the circuit breaker of the house.
  • Locate the main gas pipe and water shut-off valves.
  • Check the plumbing conditions in every washroom.

Once you have check marked all of the above-mentioned things, you can start shifting your furniture then.

2. Cable Network & Internet Connection

Connect with people beforehand to ensure a stable cable (if required) and internet connection is provided. Hope that you are not moving to a dead zone. Before getting the connection, you must compare different packages and prices of various service providers.

Select any service as per your needs. If you have an online work system, schedule the installation at least two weeks before moving in.

3. Home Improvements and Repair

A new home comes with a bundle of work to do and, truly, it is inevitable. Get the plumbing work done to avoid leaking pipes, pay attention to rusted window locks that need replacement, and consider the condition of previous paint. However, it is the responsibility of the owner to ensure all the repairing is made. So, have a check on that too.

For your new home, you may have already planned out everything, for instance, installing a bookcase, having a wallpaper sheet, or maybe the installation of the smart home technology. Whatever the case, schedule a time and get it all done on one day to avoid paying again and again for small tasks.

So why not consider a food vacuum sealer? Or maybe seal a meal? Which one is best? Check it out here: https://homeaddons.com/seal-a-meal-vs-foodsaver-vacuum-sealer/

There are few basic kitchen utensils to have in your kitchen like:

  • Wine glasses
  • Coffee mugs, etc.

The major kitchen appliances that you would be required to have are:

  • Toaster
  • Microwave Oven
  • Sandwich Maker

  • Blender
  • Electric Kettle
  • Salad Spinner, etc.

Instead, the market has been invaded with a variety of kitchen appliances to make cooking easier and food tastier.

5. Household Essentials Lists

Last but not least, overall essentials of your home include tons of cleaning gadgets or supplies. Instead, do some grocery before moving to your new home. Get the laundry cleaning supplies ready too. If you have not got a vacuum cleaner so far, get it as soon as possible.

Besides that, have a toolbox, extensions, and related items handy while shifting. You also need to get a drill machine to hang everything perfectly in place without damaging the fresh paint. Have a socket wrench set, box cutter, duct tape, batteries, flashlights, candles, lighter, and so on. Have a ladder and water hose as well.

Wait, wait, and don’t miss out installing a good lightening system when you move in. Replacing the dim bulbs would be a great idea as well.

All the little things mentioned above are necessities for your new home. They are basics yet they are of great significance. I hope it helps. Good Luck!
