Pack in advance and use a plan

Once you have sold up, packing is the single biggest thing you will need to do. Packing can take up a lot of time and energy if you let it. The best way to pack for a move is to follow these steps.

  1. Make a plan. Write down the name of each room what needs to be packed, and where it will be going. This means if there is any confusion you can refer to the plan and everything is organised for you.
  1. Pack well in advance of your move date. Non-essentials like ornaments, clothes and linens should be packed several months in advance. If you’re packing, linens or fabrics make sure they’re clean and pressed before they go into the boxes.
  1. Pack little and often. As you have a packing plan, you can pack in small bursts, and it won’t get away from you. Set yourself 10 minutes twice a day and pack as much as you can in that time. Don’t forget you will need packing boxes bubble wrap, labels, tape and scissors to do a really good packing job.

Use professional movers

Using a professional moving company can help you when moving day comes. Professionals movers can do the heavy lifting so you don’t have to worry about straining your back. Moving men, are used to quickly, getting the most difficult of pieces of furniture into position, without undue bother. This is a real help come moving day, as there is always so much to do.

Have an essentials box that you keep with you

A great tip for moving day is to have a small box of essentials that goes with you in your car and not in the mover’s van. This should contain any key documents for the day; you’re moving plan, mugs, a kettle, coffee and spoons. No searching through 50 boxes when you need a coffee break!  It’s also really a great idea to keep the kids bedroom essentials separate. Then you can prioritise setting their rooms up, allowing them to feel quickly at home.

No matter how hectic your moving day is, keep to a plan, and delegate to those around you. You’ll be settled in in no time!
